Rural Health Network Receives Contribution from Marine Bank

The Rural Health Network of Monroe County has received a donation in the amount of $1,000 from Marine Bank in Key West, as part of its annual 2005 fundraising campaign.  The check was presented to Rural Health by Branch Supervisor William Walton.  Funds from this contribution and the campaign will be used to support the Network’s efforts to supply primary medical and oral health care to the uninsured and working poor of the Lower Keys and the county.

Rural Health, also known as the Florida Keys Community Health Center, operates mobile medical vans and clinics throughout the Keys to ensure access for residents of the entire county.  Over 10,000 persons have been helped by Center services since its beginning in 1999, while dental care services begun in 2003 have handled over 3,000 patient visits.

“Unfortunately, health care has become increasingly unaffordable for many people in our community.  This donation will go far in assisting us in our campaign efforts, and we are truly grateful,” says Dr. Mark Szurek, Executive Director of the Network.  The Network has embarked upon three campaigns, one in each region of the Florida Keys to secure necessary funding.  “We are gratified by the outpouring of community generosity and feel confident that we will achieve our fundraising goals. “

The Rural Health Network of Monroe County is a not-for-profit, tax-exempt health care organization, which receives funding from federal, state, and county government, as well as private foundations, patient fees for service and public contributions.  It is certified by the FL Department of Health:  Office of Rural Health.
